Shobana Powell Consulting
Trauma-Informed | Survivor-Centered | Equity & Inclusion
Our approach.
Advocating at the intersection of gender-based violence, human trafficking, & systemic oppression.
Who we are.
We are a national team of clinical, legal, and survivor consultants, who specialize in the intersectionality of gender-based violence, human trafficking, and systemic oppression.
Our team consists of experts in culturally-specific responses to trauma.
We believe when we support one another and share power, we can strengthen our collective resilience.
Our values.
Our work is centered on our values. We focus on supporting racial justice, survivor-led work, and LGBTQ+ and immigrant rights.
We believe that our work should be led by the communities we serve.
What we do.
We love to partner with nonprofits, government entities, and businesses engaged in the movement to end gender-based violence and human trafficking to:
1) develop and facilitate customized training, 2) provide technical assistance through program design and capacity building support, 3) facilitate change management and strategic planning, 4) conduct community-led research, and 5) design and facilitate supportive spaces for teams impacted by vicarious trauma.
Our mission.
Our goal is to support and empower existing programs, continue challenging systemic oppression, and do so with creativity, positivity and joy. What you do matters, and we want to support you in that work.
Our team.
“The Shobana Powell Consulting team is by far the most collaborative, forward-thinking group I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Their unique experiences and areas of expertise provide a truly intersectional lens to problem analysis and solution development.
Their value is immeasurable.”
— Sarah B., Anti-Trafficking Attorney
What makes us unique.
Survivor-Centered Design
Building on the doctoral research of our CEO & Founder, Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW, our clients benefit from organizational management tools and program design models that center survivors as key experts and colleagues. These include the:
Survivor Equity & Inclusion (SEI) Framework.
Preventing the re-exploitation of Survivor Leaders (undercompensating, undervaluing, and tokenizing) in the movement to end trafficking
Survivor-Centered Curriculum Development Model.
Utilizing design thinking and human-centered design to co-create trainings with the communities we serve
*The terminology “Survivor-Centered Design” & “Survivor Equity & Inclusion” were developed by Dr. Powell through her research and field experience.
